"Astronomology" -- what is it?

Astronomology is the practice of astrology using astronomy to build the chart and supply new insights.

Moving Away From Dangers Inherent In Western Astrology

The choices we are currently forced to make in constructing the astrological figure result in potentially damaging disparities. My sign according to the Tropical Zodiac is Aries. But the Sidereal Zodiac finds me a Pisces. I have a collection of planets which can fall, depending upon the house system being used, on either side of the Midheaven because they are all conjunct with it. Since the planets in question consist of the entire personal planet collection and moon's north node, mutually conjunct and parallel in pairs, placement is extremely critical to the meaning of my life's efforts and my ultimate purpose here. One interpretation may in some way, shape or form be as good as the next to somebody else. But would my life ever be the same if I started down the wrong path in good faith having taken erroneous advice? This is probably an arguable point. And if the answer be yes, one interpretation is as good as the next, then is astrology a tool for guidance or the equivalent of an expensive coin toss?

Further, although the practice of observing "intercepted signs" may be essentially good, intercepting them in pairs may not be. While it is true some signs are shorter than others, there is no rhythm to the layout of the constellations from which the signs take their names. Scorpius, for example, is approximately 6.6º wide at the ecliptic; Taurus is approximately 36.6º, depending upon the date at which one takes his measurement. (In April 1912 Scorpius was 6.5º and Taurus was 36.8º). Sign interception is only observed in the use of selected House systems on the premise that at certain latitudes the whole of the sky is not always visible. In fact at the poles, visibility is extremely limited. Hence, since the concept of observing sign size disparity originates with a scientific observation, it ought to be implemented in a way that brings a little common sense into the picture. Or the concept ought to be discounted entirely.

Modern Technology Scores Touchdown In Search For Truth

And then there is the question of a 13th constellation on the plane of the ecliptic, also known as the belt of the zodiac. Between November 29 or 30  (cusp date) and December 17 or 18 (cusp date) the Sun transits a constellation known as Ophiuchus the Serpent Holder. A thoughtful review of the history of this constellation pieced together with prophecy concerning the cosmic destiny of the sign of Scorpio should cause one to stop and think seriously about what is going on here.

Why Astrology Is A Science

In the day and age in which astrology was conceived it is popularly thought man's conception of the heavens was as simple as his technology and agrarian lifestyle. He used the cycles of the celestial bodies in the heavens to tell him when to plant and when to harvest. He was able to get the rhythm of their movements "down to a science."

Mystical and occult texts supply details about the use of astrology and the nature of the heavenly bodies that the world's historians only hint at. These details could only be received in the act of showing reverence for all forms of life from gods and demi-gods, to elements and seasons. Our ancestors used the celestial bodies to navigate their course on the seas, to make important decisions, and to make calendars to mark the passage of time and especially the numerous occasions to celebrate life, as we do to this day.

The farther back we go in man's history on this planet, the closer to the elements of nature he lived, and the more dependent upon its good graces he was. Indeed, our very survival as a race depended upon our ancestors' knowledge of how to commune with nature, divine her secrets, and petition their higher powers for prosperity and abundance. The occult/religious practices and principles that allowed our ancestors to thrive and form communities and social orders comprised their scientific knowledge base. At what point did any part of of that knowledge base or any tool ever used to get us here from there fall out of the definition of the term "science?"  My challenge to the defensive scientist is to get out his dictionary right now and look up the word "science."

Scientific observation enhanced by modern technology has profoundly deepened our understandings of the workings of the Universe and our place in it. Somehow technology has become a god in its own right, separating mechanical mind from intuitive mind, and setting the sciences born of the roots of consciousness apart as a bastard. The once good name of Astrology has degenerated into what quasi-intellectuals are calling one of the "pseudo-sciences." Obviously these people are in denial over the definition of the term "science."

Startistics recommends that whenever you have occasion to read an argument paper that asserts Astrology is not a science, check the author's credentials and table of authorities. Chances are the person making the argument is on the outside looking in. That is to say, he or she probably has not devoted many years to the theory and practical study of astrology. Very often these people are not open minded when it comes to spirituality, mysticism and the occult.  Therefore their argument papers are prejudiced by ignorance due to their failure and refusal to do the research required to give them proper perspective. Ironically, this amounts to the failure to apply scientific method to their own work. It is a job half done.

Astrology As Currently Practiced Is Arguable

Right now astronomers are pointing to the physical realities of the sky as proof that astrology is bunk. Once I discovered Ophiuchus the Serpent Holder for myself, I had no choice as a person of some intelligence than to agree with them. Here at the very least is a sign that our science needs to evolve with the new millennium!

Were we to suggest to men of modern technology that they, as an integral part of the body of humanity, are unwitting agents of the cosmos, drawing and redrawing, defining and redefining the elements in the heavens guided by cosmic designers they don't see or hear, they wouldn't be likely to believe it. Consequently, it is up to us to heed the cosmic voices that are speaking to us through them as the voices urge us to get our noses out of the old books and turn our eyes to the skies again. We should honor and accept the part technologists have played in illuminating the divinable heavens and we should work side by side with modern technology in good faith -- because it's the next right thing to do.

Bridging the Gap -- Good Vibrations

The bridging of science and spirituality has been prophesied to occur in the new Aeon. New epochs are known by the student of metaphysics to be accompanied by a changing of the vibrations and frequencies perceived by the extra sensory systems of the body of man. This updated system, Astronomology, would appear to be at least a reasonable candidate for one herald of that change.

Who Invented Astronomology?

No one invented Astronomology. No one is in charge of it though some may try to ride herd on it. It exists on its own merit -- that's what's so great and pure about it -- and it will dictate its own requirements for healthy growth. It has only to be intuited and divined through the luminaries and objects that define it to be experienced and utilized properly. A working knowledge of scientific principles would be helpful in developing new understandings and fostering interpersonal communication and relationships.

Astronomology Tools and Examples

Thanks to François Deschamps there now exists a software program called Starlogin (see my download page) that extracts the essential astronomical elements (such as ecliptic longitude and declination) and outputs them into spreadsheet form so you can manipulate this number set along with the astrological one. He has also added constellation lines to the inner circle to replace the house divisions so you can see at a glance where sign and constellation airspace differs. Consequently, there is now much opportunity here for development and expansion of the astronomology concept.

The provided sample chart reading which can also be found on my downloads page discusses, illustrates, and makes use of some astronomy principles which I have found to be excitingly profound. This should give you an idea of how Astronomology combines the best attributes of astronomy and astrology to yield a truly convincing display of the physical effects of cosmic cause.
