"Caduceus"
by James N. Muir
Greer, AZ, USA

Recognized internationally as a Symbol of Medicine, this bronze representation by James N. Muir symbolizes a global message of healing for humanity. The "Caduceus" has become an Angel Of Healing rising like the mythical Phoenix heralding a New Era of harmony and Peace, to heal the earth and all its inhabitants with Love as the Master Physician.

"My goal is to see the "Seven Ladies on Seven Continents" transcending individual differences to become a unifying symbol for the universal kinship of humanity and all creation in a physical metaphor representing the spiritual connection between all things. To help bring the healing power of love into the earth, ushering in a new era of Peace."

"Caduceus"

Recognized internationally as the Symbol of Medicine, the "Caduceus" as depicted in the sculpture has become an angel of healing not only of body, mind and spirit but, at a higher level, of all humanity, the earth, and the universe.

Partial symbology includes:

  1. 7-rayed crown or tiara - 7 Hermetic causes of disease and respective methods of healing.
  2. Hair ribbons symbolizing a "new heaven", a new enlightenment or level of understanding (also # of stars). The bow at the back suggests the rest of the mythical "Phoenix" bird as she rises out of the ashes of old world thinking.
  3. Jewel at forehead over "mystical third eye" to represent the opening into full insight into the esoteric world of healing and metaphysics.
  4. Sun-Moon earrings--traditional symbols for the doctor-patient relationship.
  5. Ankh necklace over exposed heart--ancient symbol and healing instrument predating Egyptian use and emphasizing the mind/heart (yang/yin) balance necessary for the healer as well as the patient.
  6. Feather of Truth -- tied at end of hair where two braids (polarities) become one in completeness.
  7. Wings--expansiveness with 12 primary feathers on each for total of 24. Shielding, protecting, healing and especially uplifting for all humanity.
  8. Hands--raised in healing blessing. One and two fingers raised respectively to indicate the two universal commandments
  9. Serpents -- Masculine/feminine, head/heart, yang/yin polarities forming the double helix of the human DNA molecule. Each makes a double circle around the body, thus, four complete revolutions to symbolize the perfect elixir of the "philosophers stone" -- the four elements to heal any "dis-ease". Wisdom and silver "threads" of the spiritual
  10. Old earth falling away to reveal the golden orb of the new world of enlightenment, peace and harmony.
  11. Granite pedestal -- the foundation stone of the material/physical world chipped as our perspective of reality changes and expands. Four female faces at the four corners representing the four major races of earth.
  12. Most importantly the benevolent, compassionate expression on the lady to remind all that perfect healing must begin with perfect love. And, even in the darkest hour love will be the master physician.
